Next up was the Open Show and Star was the pick of the three dogs.  She placed 2nd in the Junior Bitch class but this also meant she took out the Reserve Bitch of Breed.  Storm was entered up in the NZ Bred class and came 2nd, whilst Emma finished 3rd in the Junior Bitch class behind Star.

The first dog into the ring was Storm who came 2nd in the Junior Dog Class.  Next in were the two girls, Star took 3rd place whilst Emma came first in the Junior Bitch class.  Emma then progressed to the girls final and won the Best Bitch of Breed and along with it earned her second CHALLENGE  CERTIFICATE, meaning she is now 2/8 th's of the way to becoming a NZ Champion.

In the second Open Show all three dogs did superb.  Storm started strongly by winning the Junior Dog class, in the boys final Storm excelled by winning the Best Dog of Breed title, followed by beating the Best Bitch of Breed to take the title of overall BEST OF BREED.  Emma performed well in the ring to win the NZ Bred Bitch class, whilst Star not only won the Junior Bitch class but then went on to take the Reserve Bitch of Breed title.

11th Jun 22 - Purina Pro Plan Open (O x 2)

In the first show of the day Storm was entered up in the NZ Bred class and won both Best NZ Bred Dog and NZ Bred Dog of Breed.  Emma was entered in the Junior Bitch category and came 2nd in this class.  Meanwhile Star was entered up in the Open category and not only won the Open Bitch, which took her through to the girls final, but she also performed well to earn the title of Reserve Bitch of Breed.

In the second show of the day Storm was entered in the Junior Category and won Best Junior Dog but went no further in the competition.  Star was entered in the Junior Category for this show and came a creditable 2nd place in the Junior Bitch class.  Emma was entered up in the Open category and this was her chance to shine.  Emma started off by winning the Open Bitch class, which put her through to the girls final where she won Best Bitch of Breed, this time losing out to Brodie in the overall Best of Breed final but still went on to earn the title of Reserve Best of Breed.

22nd May 22 - Kumeu Kennel Association Open (O x 2)

In the first show of the day Storm again won Best Junior Dog, a feat matched by Emma winning Best Junior Bitch.  In the age-grade final Emma turned the tables on Storm to win Junior Dog of Breed.  Storm went on to take Reserve Dog this time losing out to Milo in the boys final.  Emma then excelled in the girls final to win Best Bitch of Breed, and only lost out Milo in the overall Best of Breed final but still took out the title of Reserve Best of Breed.

In the second show Storm was entered in the Open Class where he came runner-up to Milo.  When Milo won the Best Dog of Breed, Storm entered the ring in his place and was awarded Reserve Dog once again.  In the girls competition Emma took Best Junior Bitch and Junior Dog of Breed.

21st May 22 - Tokoroa Canine Association Open (O)

Storm started by winning Best Junior Dog followed by Junior Dog of Breed, and then in the Dogs final he achieved one of his best show wins by beating champion dog Milo to take Best Dog of Breed at the show and overall Reserve Best of Breed.

In the girls side of the draw Emma started well by winning the Best Junior Bitch and was pipped by Storm in the Junior Dog of Breed final. In the girls final did really well to take the title of Reserve Bitch of Breed.

15th May 22 - Napier Kennel Centre Open (CH & O)

In the first show of the day, the Championship Show, Storm again placed 2nd in the Junior Dog Class.  Whilst both Emma and Star were unplaced in a strong line-up.

In the second show, the Open Show, Storm had his best showing of the weekend.  Entered up into the Open category, he not only won the Best Open Dog, but also took out the Best Open of Breed title.  Emma also improved on her showing of the previous day by moving up one spot into 2nd place in the Junior Bitch class, whilst Star was unplaced.

14th May 22 - Wairoa Kennel Association (CH & O)

After the long drive down to Hastings none of the dogs performed well in the first show of the day, the Championship Show.   Storm achieved the best result taking 2nd place in the Junior Dog class, whilst Emma took a creditable 3rd place and Star was unplaced.

In the second show, the Open Show, Storm improved on the morning show by taking the Best Junior Dog but lost to the Best Bitch in the Best of Breed final.  Emma also improved in the afternoon and moved up to 2nd place in the Junior Bitch class, whilst Star was again unplaced in a strong line-up.

16th April 22 - Kapi-Mana Kennel Assoc (O) & Hutt Valley Kennel Club (O)

On the way down to Ashhurst we picked up Storm's sister Emma to give her some experience in the Show ring and spend time socialising wtih Storm and Star.

In the ring none of the dogs earned any title wins. However, Storm had two 2nd place finishes in the Best Junior Dog class.  Emma had two 3rd place finishes in the Best Junior Bitch class. Star had a 3rd place finish in the NZ Bred class in the first show.

3rd April 22 - Golden Retriever Club (O) and Cambridge Kennel Association (O x 2)

The three Open shows on Sunday proved to be a more successful day, with Storm winning the Junior Dog competition and overall Reserve Dog in the first Cambridge Open show, followed by taking the Reserve Dog title again in the second Open Show.  Star also had a better Sunday at the Cambridge shows by taking the NZ Bred Bitch class in the first of the Open shows.

2nd April 22 - Golden Retriever Club (CH) and Cambridge Kennel Association (CH)

On Saturday 2nd April, neither Storm or Star had their best day in the Championship shows. Storm managed a 2nd place in the Cambridge show Junior Dog class, and a 3rd place in the Golden Retriever Club show Junior Dog competition. Star didn't manage a placing in two strong fields.

26th March 22 - Waitemata Gundog Championship Show (CH)

Storm started the day by winning Best Junior Dog, and then in the Junior Dog of Breed final beat the bitch who had just won the overall Best Bitch of Breed title. Storm performed well in the Best Junior in Show final but did not take out the title.

Star moved up into the NZ Bred Bitch class to avoid a potential clash with Storm if they both made the Junior final, as it would be impossible for me to run two dogs at once!  Star not only won the older NZ Bred Bitch class, but then because there was no NZ Bred Dog entered Star was an automatic winner of NZ Bred Dog of Breed.  With Star all lined up ready to compete in the Nz Bred in Show final, the news that a NZ Bred Dog had just won the overall Best in Show (BIS) title meant Stars final was cancelled because the BIS dog would be an automatic winner of the NZ Bred in Show title as well.

So overall a good day with another 5pts earned by both Storm and Star in the Rising Star of the Year competition.

6th March 22 - Hamilton Kennel Association Open Show (O)

Star and Storm both perform well on day two of the Hamilton KA Open show.  Storm starts out by winning Junior Dog of Breed and goes on to win Best Dog of Breed, closely followed by Star matching his achievement by winning Junior Bitch of Breed and going on to win Best Bitch of Breed.  In the Breed Final Star turns the tables from the previous days show to beat Storm and win the overall title of BEST OF BREED.

In the next show of the day, the Ribbon Parade, Storm is rested whilst Star puts in her best ever performance by winning Junior Bitch of Breed and Best Bitch of Breed,as well as overall BEST OF BREED. These wins take Star through to two Gundog finals, where she is awarded Best Junior of Group as well as overall BEST IN GROUP.  This takes Star through to the overall Best in Show final where she competes admirably against the six other best dogs of all ages across the show.

5th March 22 - Hamilton Kennel Association Open Show (O)

Star and Storm each have a strong day competing at the Hamilton KA Open show.  Storm starts out by winning Junior Dog of Breed and goes on to win Best Dog of Breed, closely followed by Star matching his achievement by winning Junior Bitch of Breed and going on to win Best Bitch of Breed.  In the Breed Final Storm pips Star to win the overall title of BEST OF BREED with finishing a very credible Reserve of Breed.

Storm then competes in the overall Gundog final, achieving Reserve in Group.  In his age grade Gundog final Storm excels again to take out title of Best Junior of Group ..... and then performs well in the Junior in Show final.

5th February 22 - Central Golden Retriever Society 73rd Championship Show (CH)

In his first Golden Retriever Speciality Show Storm starts the day off well by winning Best Puppy Dog against a large quality field.  Star competes in the competition for Best Puppy Bitch and finishes in 2nd place.  In the Puppy final Storm performs really well and struts his stuff in the ring against the best Puppy Bitch to take out his first ever ***BEST PUPPY IN SHOW*** title!!!

Judge - Lyn Morris

30th January 22 - NZ District Judges Association (O)

Storm competed in a rather limited field for the NZDJA Open show in Auckland.  As the only Puppy Dog entered Storm was an automatic winner, and then in a closely fought final (you could see the judge was a bit undecided) he once again managed to take out the title of Best Puppy of Breed.

16th January 22 - Wanganui Kennel Association (CH)

In the last show of the weekend, the Wanganui KA Championship show, Storm was handled for the second time by Melanie Snowden.  Once again Melanie's handling skills were on display as she guided Storm to both the Best Puppy Dog and Best Puppy of Breed titles for the second time in a Championship show over the weekend.

Storm says a massive 'Thank You' to Mel, Sherryn and Sophie for showing him over the weekend and allowing him to compete in the shows, whilst his Dad let him down and sat around all weekend resting his calf muscle!

15th January 22 - Manawatu Kennel Association (CH & O) & Wanganui Kennel Association (O)

In the first of three shows for the day, the Manawatu KA Championship show, Storm is handled for the first time by Melanie Snowden (the breeder and owner of Storm's father and Champion Dog Reno) of Goldendream kennels.  Melanie's expert handling skills are to the fore as she takes Storm to Best Puppy Dog and then Best Puppy of Breed titles.

In the second show of the day, the Manawatu KA Open show, Storm has his second new handler of the day .... this time Sherryn Patterson of Rowangold kennels.  Storm responds well to Sherryn's pacy handling to again win the Best Puppy Dog title but misses out on the Best Puppy of Breed.  However, in the final for best overall Golden Retriever Dog Storm and Sherryn exceed expectations by taking the title of Reserve Dog.

In the final show of the day, the Wanganui KA Open show, Storm has his third new handler of the day .... this time 12-year old Sophie Black of Goldendream Kennels.  Storm and Sophie quickly re-establish a strong bond, having first met some 5-months earlier in Porirua (near Wellington) and look like they've worked for years together in the ring.  This young partnership quickly take out the Best Puppy Dog title, followed by Best Puppy of Breed, followed by Best Puppy of Group and then unbelievably topped this with not just Best Dog of Breed but then also beat the Best Bitch of Breed to win the overall title of BEST OF BREED.

10th January 22 - Star comes into Season

Star comes into season and will miss the next three weekends of shows.

9th January 22 - Huntly & District Kennel Association (CH) & Waikato Gundog Club (CH)

In the Huntly & District Kennel Association show Storm wins the Puppy Dog Class, whilst Star finishes 2nd in the Puppy Bitch Class.  Storm then goes on to win the Puppy of Breed title by beating the best Puppy Bitch in the final.

In the afternoon show, hosted by the Waikato Gundog Club, Star again finishes 2nd in the Puppy Bitch Class.  However, Storm goes on to put in his strongest performance of the weekend by not only winning the Puppy of Breed title but also going on to win the Reserve Dog CC title in the overall Best Dog of Breed (beating a couple of NZ Champions along the way) to earn his highest ever placing in a Championship show.

8th January 22 - Tauranga Kennel Association (CH) & Bay of Plenty Gundog Show Society (CH)

Storm and Star finally get to compete in the 'puppy' class after 5 months of Covid restrictions.

In their first show of the year, Storm won the Puppy Dog Class and Star won the Puppy Bitch Class meaning they were up against each other in the Tauranga KA Golden Retriever Puppy final.  For the first time in a final Star beat Storm to earn the Best Puppy of Breed title, her highest achievement yet!

In the second show of the day, the Bay of Plenty Gundog Show, Storm and Star repeat their respective achievements of the morning by winning the Puppy Dog Class and Puppy Bitch Class, meaning they were up against each other in the final again.  This time around the tables were turned with Storm taking out the Best Puppy of Breed.

31st December 21 - Dogz Online Rising Star of the Year 2021

Storm finishes as North Island runner-up in the Golden Retriever class in Dogz Online's Rising Star of the Year competition.  He also finished joint 20th in the overall Gundog Class.  A great achievement by Storm but slightly disappointing as he'd only been able to compete for 2.5 months, and had been climbing up the leaderboard when shows were cancelled due to Covid restrictions.  Final Golden Retriever placings were:

1. Goldendream Nine to One - Melanie Snowdon - 35 pts

2. Goldridge Game-of-Thrones (Storm) - T Sheehy & G Sheehy - 30 pts

3. Seacove Roll The Dice - Janette Bedford - 15 pts
